Subject: [MDBirding] 2 new birds @ McMillan Rez - DC

Hi Everyone,

Most of the recent waterfowl found at McMillan Reservoir were still there today including the Ring-necked Ducks, Coots, Canada Geese, Rudy Duck, Lesser Scaup, Goldeneye, and Redhead. Additionally, a male Bufflehead and unsexed Horned Grebe seemed to have flown in to join the waterfowl party.

The Gull flock was smaller than I've seen for awhile, but I've noticed Bald Eagles have been coming by pretty frequently and seem to bother the gulls while the waterfowl don't seem to be bothered much. Canada Geese numbers seemed to be at an all time high, and the previously reported Cackling Geese are probably mixed in there.

Good Birding!

P.S. It was funny to watch the coots get bullied by the Geese. Every Coot that was feeding seemed to have an attending goose ready to snatch the seaweed they found while diving. Some of the snatching escalated to outright chasing and biting.
