Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to send a quick note of encouragement to anyone on the fence about submitting. Russ has done an amazing job with this project, and the data entry is easier than ever! Keep in mind that if you don't keep track of any given category, you can totally leave it blank. I know some of Russ's plans for the final product, and I think this year's List Report will be our most useful and enjoyable ever. I think it will be a resource that many of us will refer to regularly in the future, and having your numbers in there will make it even more fun to review.

While listing should be a secondary pursuit in our enjoyment of nature, it has many great merits. It provides an invaluable framework for learning regional and temporal distribution. It gives us additional reasons to explore new habitats and to revisit them at all times of the year. It helps motivate us to get out of the house (and gather data!) even on the most miserable days. It is also a wonderful gateway drug that often leads to a deeper passion for nature study and conservation. And it's just fun!

But if it's not your thing, that's cool, too.

I'm a fan!

Thanks on behalf of the MD community, Russ! We know it's a ton of work, and we appreciate you doing it!

Good birding,

Bill

>Good morning, everyone,

>This will be my final reminder to submit your lists to me if you want to be included in the annual report for 2012! The end of the month is only a couple days away and at that point I have to begin compiling the report. I've attached the List Report form and the Big Day Report form in both xls and xlsx formats, so one of those formats should work on your computer depending on PC/Mac or Excel version you are running.

>Looking forward to receiving your Reports! Please try to get them to me in the next couple of days! At this point, I have about 70 reports in but many past participants are still pending. I am planning some new additions to the report this year, including individual county and District year summaries plus a Big Day section, but the report isn't worth anything without all of your data!!
>
>No doubt you've seen that Mike Ostrowski recently updated his fabulous Excel Macro that will slice and dice all of your Maryland eBird data into neat little totals for almost every reporting category that appears on this form. It only takes a couple clicks of the mouse...what a wonderful tool! The Macro can be accessed here:
