Subject: [MDBirding] PG Co. gulls at landfill

This was under the "where to take specimens" topic--I guess just changing the subject doesn't work on this the way it does on some lists!

Anyway, I was interested in it, and glad to have the information, so thought I'd take the liberty of re-posting it for others to see (and ok, I admit, so I can find it again). Hope you don't mind, Clive, and thanks for the information on a place to see gulls that is easy to park near!

PG Co. Gulls

I was out doing some birding earlier and drove past the PG landfill. I was surprised to see how easy it is view the tipping face and the area where the gulls feed and stand around from Brown Station Rd. Its probably better or as good viewing as looking at the tipping area at Salisbury. I parked and set up my scope on the sidewalk - presume it is OK parking on the shoulder but if not you can park on a side street and walk. After 30 mins of continuous scoping I had found a first year Iceland Gull and two different Lesser Black-backed Gulls amongst the several thousand birds present. I had a bit of trouble seeing out of my left eye after scoping for that length of time without a break but it seems to be working OK now! Still, a longer session would probably turn up some good stuff.
