Hi All,
Nancy and I were out locally in the afternoon and checked a few spots near home in western Kent County. Our best bird was an adult GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE in the big fields on Great Oak Landing Road just west of and beyond Great Oak Pond. The latter is still birdable if you stay in the car and use the south road shoulder as you head east on Great Oak Landing Rd. (be careful of traffic). The bird played hide and seek so well amongst the Canadas that Nancy never laid eyes on it. I saw it first in flight and watched it leave for a more distant part of the field after about five or so minutes of partial views among the other geese. This will not be any easy bird to relocate as we had about 3800 Canada Geese in the area on Fish Hatchery, Handy Pt. and Great Oak Landing roads. We also found a CACKLING GOOSE among Canadas in the fields behind the first farm on Handy Point Rd. north of the intersection with Fish Hatchery Rd (east side of the road).
Other birds of interest included 11 Redheads with ring-necks and Lesser Scaup in a field pond to the east of Handy Pt. Rod just north of Great Oak Landing Rd. and 115 Common and 5 Hooded mergansers on the Fish Hatchery Pond on Fish Hatchery Rd.
Good Birding,
