Subject: [MDBirding] Harford Big Day (2/18/2013)

Today Matt Hafner and I decided to do some birding close to home. We were doing so well, that I decided I was going to make an effort towards doing a big day. I ended up with 78 species on the day. Not too shabby for February. Our efforts put me past the 100 mark in Harford county for the year, and I picked up a life bird (Rusty Blackbird). All this without ever setting foot in Swan Harbor Farm!

Best birds: 1 Greater Scaup - on the Susquehanna, 1 Red-breasted Merg - HdG from one of the marinas, 4 Black-crowned Night-Heron - Tydings Memorial Park, HdG, 1 Eastern Phoebe - Gunpowder S.P. (Joppatowne, Harford), 1 Brown Thrasher - Perryman, and 65+ Rusty Blackbirds at Club House Rd pond in Perryman.

Notable misses: Bullock's Oriole (couldn't just sit around waiting for the bird :-( makes me sad), Rufous Hummingbird (I tried to call Les, but he was busy), Snow Goose (I didn't end up in Jarrettsville), Cackling Goose, Tundra Swan, Northern Harrier, Owls, American Tree Sparrow, Savannah Sparrow, and Pine Siskin (I never ended up at my GF's house where there are 100+ in the am).
