Just a flash highlight reel on today's MD Pelagic, on the Morningstar. Seas were at times rough and mixed, but the conditions did seem to keep the alcids in flight all day.
The best bird was a very cooperative breeding plumage Common Murre, which we all observed in the water and in flight very close to the boat. Still a good rarity in MD.

We had a handfull of Razorbills in the morning, a then several larger flocks (12, 17) once we turned for home. The days total was around 40.
Once we were well offshore we starting seeing many pairs and small flocks of Dovekies, with a handful of larger groups. They remainded frustratingly in flight only, but ultimately we managed a couple birds on the waters to the enjoyment of most. The total for the day was around 120.
We had a consistent gull/gannet flock all day, with multiple Lesser Black-backed Gulls, but other pelagics remained hidden.
All in all, a good trip, and we were glad to finally get offshore this winter. Thanks to the Captain and all the participants. Ebird lists will be forthcoming.
Good birding,
Mark Hoffman
