Had close encounters of the woodcock kind this evening in the Patapsco Scrubland by my driveway. Of the 5-6 woodcock that I heard, I saw three. One landed on the ground less than 20' away: close enough to hear the landing thump & get a clear recording of the "peenting" on my iPhone!
Conditions tomorrow night should still be favorable: display window should be 5:15-5:45 PM. Contact me if you'd try for them here tomorrow evening.
