Went to the The Howard Conservancy to look for signs of spring on a cloudy afternoon. Was well rewarded with 40+ Savannah Sparrows in the goldenrod swale. This is a doubling of the overwintering flock.
A hint of yellow lores http://flic.kr/p/e2zHJ1

I also spent some time looking for salamanders and found 14 Northern Two-lined in one stream. As I was walking the stream I flushed an American Woodcock from behind the hodgepodge lodge. I almost stepped on him! http://flic.kr/p/e2u7Pk

The pond in the Clark garden is filled with Wood frogs and their eggs. Nice to see these beautiful frogs so closely and so well.....http://flic.kr/p/e2u7Jt

My first Spring Beauty of the year blooming...even on a cloudy afternoon
