During my lunchtime walk around Schoolhouse Pond, I came across a flock of 46 Rusty Blackbirds. The birds were in the trees and brambles along the backside of the pond, moving as a group, and making quite a bit of noise. I counted at least 46 birds, but I think that there may have been substantially more, as I only counted the ones I directly saw and there were more calling from the brambles that I could not see. Otherwise, it has been pretty quiet at the pond, although there were three Osprey today, Bald Eagles of a variety of ages make daily appearances, and its been nice listening to the singing Winter Wren several mornings this week. The pair of Red-shouldered Hawks have been tending their territory in the woods behind the pond, and a pair of Eastern Bluebirds appear to be nesting in a cavity near the edge of the pond. Lastly, the local Barred Owl let loose with a raucous call at lunchtime today, so I know that it is still present as well. Good birding,
