Last eve when I got home there was a large mixed flock of birds in my neighbors field, including a lot of robins, and mixed blackbirds. Since MA has a Fieldfare now, I decided to scan them carefully. They were in a feeding frenzy, and twice they flushed to the woods but returned to feed almost immediately. I scanned them carefully for about 10 minutes (conservative count by ones = 137), looking for a vagrant thrush but of course all I found were robins. I will keep looking, since migrating flocks often use these fields at this time of year, and one of these days it may be our turn to get lucky with a Varied Thrush or better yet - a Fieldfare (yes, I am dreaming but why not)!
The mixed blackbirds included no Yellow-headed or other unexpected icterids, but I saw 3 Rusties (they are often seen around here).
Cheers!
