Highlight of a trip to Kenilworth today was a Horned Lark that flushed from near the far goal posts at the top of the hill and went down somewhere past the lower parking lot. I could not refind the bird, but did have a Bluebird and a Palm Warbler at the parking lot. Two more bluebirds were near the old restrooms along the foot trail past the upper parking lot. I did not relocate the Meadowlarks that had been reported earlier from Kenilworth.
Other birds today included a Common Merganser at Georgetown Reservoir and the Yellow-Crowned Night Heron along the Sligo Creek parkway just south of the beltway.
In and out of the area yesterday, John Fox and I saw the Black-tailed Godwit at Chincoteague and had a Red-breasted Merganser on the east side of Hains Point.
Cheers,
