Subject: [MDBirding] Lilypons Today

I spent a lovely morning at Lilypons today (until the wind got up). I managed 8 duck species including Blue-winged and Green-winged Teal, Gadwall, Amer. Wigeon, Mallard, Am. Black Duck, Hooded Merganser, and Wood Duck. Eastern Meadowlark were displaying in the field. There was a single Gr. Yellowlegs and some snipe in (what I call) the stump pond next to Lilypons Road. The heron rookery is in full swing these days. Several Fox Sparrows in with the White-throats and Songs. Brown Creepers still creeping. Lots of other usual denizens all adding up to 51 species.

My favorite sighting was a mink along the creek at the end of Monocacy Bottom Road. David Smith and I had seen 2 hunting a couple of weeks ago in the back ponds along MB Road, so I guess maybe there is a family hanging out in that area. A couple of Bob's on-the-fly photos below.
