Subject: [MDBirding] 1st Broadwing at CVP HawkWatch
A lone Broadwinged Hawk was seen today at the Cromwell Valley Park HawkWatch at approximately 3:15 PM. Joe Stag, Larry & Anne Craig and I were thrilled to see this relatively low flying bird heading north. While one BW may not seem particularly interesting to some, for many of us hawk watchers this marks the start of an often spectacular passage eagerly awaited! Over the next week or two we hope to see hundreds more, sometimes in large groups.

Also notable today was our first good flight of Sharp-shinned Hawks moving through. Fort Smallwood HawkWatch has had some impressive numbers of Sharpies over the last couple of weeks, but we here at CVP have seen next to none..perhaps they are hugging the Chesapeake shore to the east of us. The Sharpies we have been seeing are mostly very high "accipidots", so maybe we are missing many high flyers. Go to hawkcont.org for details.
