Subject: [MDBirding] C&O, Violettes: Many Nighthawks and more . . .
Went for a late afternoon walk with a friend between Violettes lock and Blockhouse point yesterday. Left Violettes about 4 o'clock and got back about six.

Had lots of the expected spring birds: Orioles, Tanagers, Indigo Buntings, Great-crested flycatchers, Eastern Kingbirds, and heard warblers and vireos in the trees.

I had also wanted to check on the nighthawks that were reported the day before. We were not disappointed. Between 4:00 and about 5:40 we saw a few Nighthawks, maybe 10 or more.
But by the time he got back to the parking lot at Violettes, the sky was full of Nighthawks. There were more nighthawks than I had ever seen before during the day. At least the 50-plus that were reported the day before, and probably more. They were flying around all over the sky mostly mid to high altitude. It was really quite amazing. We stood there and watched them for about a half an hour, until regrettably we had to leave to come home.
It was a real treat !
