Subject: [MDBirding] Olive-Sided Flycatcher , Yellow-crowned Night-Heron, Hughes Hollow
I birded out River Rd. between Rileys Lock and West Offutt Rd. between 2:00pm and 8:00pm . Despite the late afternoon timing I had great looks at almost all breeding Warblers, Vireos, Orioles and other expected species. These following birds stood out to me a Yellow-Crowned Night-Heron in the southwest corner of the 1st impoundment at Hughes Hollow in the larger water submerged dead trees. It eventually flew off directly Soumthwest towards Sycamore Landing. It was soon replaced by a Olive-Sided Flycatcher which perched on the top of two pinnacles of the same trees for 10 minutes then flew off towards Hunting Quarter Rd. A mother and young son birder pair also observed OSFC, a (lifer) for them.
I also saw and heard 2 late Yellow-Rumped Warbler at he parking lot at the end of Sycamore Landing Rd. by the C & O.
Went west River Rd and looked for Grasshopper Sp. at a dependable spot, now Winchester Homes on some lots and struck out, but did find a Blue Grosbeak on the wire just past there where River Rd makes a left angle turn. Then the heavens opened up quickly around 6:30.
