I made similar rounds to Norm Saunders this morning, until the really heavy rains came through around 10:30. Many of the waterfowl he saw yesterday were not present today. At the Laytonsville pond I had a nice imm./female Northern Harrier flying around and perching on a limb in the pond, and being harassed by a really pugnacious crow. Also seen there were many Canada Geese, Mallards, Killdeer, and both kingfisher and Great Blue Heron. At Lake Needwood I had Ring-necked Ducks, many Ruddy Ducks, more kingfishers and herons, etc. Also a Phoebe. At the pond on Zion Rd. (where by now it was pouring rain) I had my first Bufflehead of the season, along with Pied-billed Grebes, more Ring-necks, American Coots, more Ruddy's (seem to be many more of these around than usual this season). Not a whole lot for all the driving around. Back home here in Ashton, after the rain, a fly-over Sharpie, Black and Turkey Vultures...
