In the pouring rain of Saturday, November 1, I made the rounds of the
ponds in Montgomery County looking for waterfowl arrivals.

PIED-BILLED GREBE -- seen at Zion Road Pond, Laytonsville Pond, Lake
   Needwood, and in very good number (25+) at Black Hill Park.
HORNED GREBE -- two at Black Hill Park
TUNDRA SWAN -- 3 at Zion Road Pond
CANADA GOOSE & MALLARD -- need I say more???
BLACK DUCK at Black Hill Park and Lake Needwood
AMERICAN WIGEON -- 6 at Lake Needwood
CANVASBACK -- 5 at Black Hill Park
RING-NECKED DUCK -- 8 at Zion Road Pond, several dozen at Black Hill
   Park, 6 at Lake Needwood
BUFFLEHEAD -- 6 at Zion Road Pond
HOODED MERGANSER -- 1 at Zion Road Pond
RUDDY DUCK -- here in good numbers at all the spots mentioned above

Other interesting birds:  1 OSPREY at Black Hill
