Norm:

If you can't go very far afield, you may want to try Layhill Park for winter
wren, fox sparrow, and barred owl. Last Sunday afternoon, we had two winter
wrens singing (saw one) in multiflora rose tangles by the stream nearest
Layhill Road. These streamside tangles were on the right, just past the
beginning of the mowed trail that starts at the far end of the soccer field
adjacent to Layhill Road. I've found Layhill Park, along the stream, to be
pretty reliable for winter wren. The hedgerows, especially from mid-Nov.
through early December, are good for sparrows, including fox. And there's
usually a barred owl around; just a matter of stumbling upon it. Let me know
if you need more detailed directions.
