A Western Grebe is always exciting in Maryland! The air temperature was a pleasent 62 degrees. We looked for land birds in the wooded areas around the picnic ground but they were scarce (a few chickadees) to absent. A large flock of Yellow Rump Warblers was in the pines and persimmon trees west of the fishing pier parking lot. Off the fishing pier we saw many small, mixed, and frequently moving, flocks of Old Squaw, White-winged Scoter, Black Scoter and Surf Scoter. Small groups of Bufflehead were seen from nearer the shore out to the deeper water. One Common Loon and a Western Grebe were present. A few Herring Gulls were on the pilings near the radar station. Not exciting, but it was nice to be out for a bit. Jack Leighty Huntingtown Jleighty@chesapeake.net
