I visited Lake Artemesia, PG MD (DeLorme page 47, B5) today (December 13). Within a few minutes of 8AM, I had a Sandhill Crane fly overhead heading south-west. I doubt the bird is chase-able, unless it was heading out of a roost. Nevertheless it's nice to know it's around. Now, if only I can identify some red flybys with misshapen bills... As an aside, if the crane maintained a constant heading, ten miles earlier it was near the pens at Patuxent. I think it's unlikely, but does anyone know if they lost a captive recently?
