I checked with Endanged Species here at the Center. No escapes. They have had wild cranes visit in more than one year (around Nov 22) and move on to other places. Within a few minutes of 8AM, I had a Sandhill Crane fly overhead heading south-west. I doubt the bird is chase-able, unless it was heading out of a roost. Nevertheless it's nice to know it's around. Now, if only I can identify some red flybys with misshapen bills... As an aside, if the crane maintained a constant heading, ten miles earlier it was near the pens at Patuxent. I think it's unlikely, but does anyone know if they lost a captive recently? Dave David Mozurkewich Seabrook MD USA dm@fornax.usno.navy.mil
