My report is similar to Les Eastman's for Sunday the 14th, with the addition of a lone immature common goldeneye at Lapidum and a few bufflehead there, with a winter wren along the old canal cut. The eagle nest along Stafford Road just north of Deer Creek looks like it will be active again, with a pair of adults hanging out in the nest tree. There was a moderate flock (maybe 100) of common mergansers above the dam, at the overlook on Bell Manor Road, and a pie-billed grebe at the Conowingo Creek boat launch. Best birds of the day were not at the river, but at West Nottingham Academy near Colora in Cecil County (my son's school). There I had 3 red crossbills: 2 males with a lot of red color and one yellow female. Also pine siskins, purple finches, golden-crowned kinglets, yellow-bellied sapsuckers, pileated woodpecker, lots of other woodpeckers, white-breasted nuthatches, etc. ______ Marcia Watson-Whitmyre Cecil County mww@udel.edu Les Eastman wrote: > Norm and Fran, > > Hope your colds get better.
