I birded in the vicinity of Gene Scarpulla's office (on Liberty Reservoir in Carroll County-see prior e-mails) today (Thurs., 12/18/97) from 0730 to 1400. Marshall Iliff had arrived around 0700, George Jett was there from 0800 to 1030, and Gene was with us off and on after 1100. Before 0730, Marshall had a flock of about 20 Red Crossbills along Oakland Road, between the watershed office and the end of the road. They were in flight. Later, Marshall and I had 1 fly-over Red Crossbill (f. type) from the picnic tables behind Gene's office. No White-winged Crossbills. Marshall and George also had a Glaucous Gull fly- over from Oakland Road. Dozens of RB Nuthatches, white pines are load with cones. Mark Hoffman Mhoff36100@aol.com
