Having done little else (not quite true) but bird the past two weeks I decided it was time to bring may wife's life, state, etc. lists up to speed. Besides staying home and taking care of our 10 month old, she had to listen to endless stories and strategizing related to crossbills, not to mention extended disappearances (to the Shore for counts) and a sudden vanishing act (to Conowingo of course) on New Year's Day. All is well. In the space of about 2 hours (on 01/04/97), we managed to see (perched!) Red (2) and White-winged (4) Crossbill at Deer Park Road, plus a fly-by flock of a dozen White-wings. Then on to Conowingo, where the Common Gull, initially absent (with a paltry number of gulls), finally put in an appearance after about 40 minutes, from noon, until we left at 12:45. No other other good gulls, although the young Peregrine put on a nice show. Three life birds for her in the space of 3 or so hours. She must live a charmed life, oops, I forgot, she is married to me!
