This is a quick, unofficial summary of the Annapolis/Gibson Island (Anne
Arundel County, MD) CBC.

Date: January 4, 1998

Compilers:	Hal Wierenga and Sue Ricciardi

Species:	104. This is not final since two of the areas were are not
represented at the final tally.

"Good" Count Species: Common Loon, Common Merganser, Northern Bobwhite,
American Woodcock, Pine Warbler, American Tree Sparrow, Pine Siskin, Purple
Finch.

"Missing" Count Species: American Kestrel, Gray Catbird, Brown Thrasher,
Eastern Phoebe, Eastern Meadowlark, Rusty Blackbird. Snow Buntings (at
Sandy Point) were not seen today, but were present for the count
week--according to Hal, "nice weather brought out every kite flier in Anne
Arundel County to the south beach, where the buntings hang out".

"Write-ins":  (1) Red-throated Loon, (1) Brant, (several) Double-crested
Cormorants, (17) Great Cormorants, (1) Iceland Gull, and (1) Ovenbird (!).
Also, (2) Richardson's Geese were seen.

A "possible" yellow tanager was seen in Edgewater in the morning, but was
not positively identified. It was searched for, but not relocated later in
the afternoon. Since there is a possibility of it being a Western Tanager,
I'm sure people will be looking for it in the morning.

A Broad-winged Hawk was reported near Glen Burnie, but since these birds
are highly hypothetical in the US in winter, north of southern Florida, the
compiler expects that this will not make it to the final results. People
will look for this bird tomorrow, also.
