I recently bought a fixed Tokina 400 mm F5.6. I am very pleased with it so far. I bought it from Camera World of Oregon and with the rebate,it runs around $400. I also added a Kenko (Tokina's brand) 1.5 tele-converter.($75). So with the teleconvereter it becomes an F8.0 600mm. I used it at Blackwater Refuge and was pleased and I am taking it to S. Florida next week in hopes of getting a good spoonbill shot. My husband did a little research in his photo magazines, and this lens rated fairly well optically especially considering the price. I also bought a Bushhawk rifle stock to add in balancing it from Eagle Optics, and am just getting used to it, but it appears to help prevent some shake. I am a beginner at both birding and bird photography but am having a great time at both. I also recomend you use dejanews to do a power search to read some other opinions. I set a search filter on newsgroups rec.photos.* and then used the words bird photography and received some other perspectives on desired equipment. Stella Aquilina aquilina@btg.com >
