Hi Folks! Just to clarify the issue about the potential that the "wrong bird" was photographed at Conowingo. While Mark and others were photographing the bird, both Mary Gustafson & Bruce Peterjohn, the original finders, were present. The bird was extremely cooperative and kept flying right in front of the many observers of January 1.....there is no doubt that all were looking at the same bird. On January 3, I went back to Conowingo with Ed Boyd to try for more photos. There were about 12 gulls flying and the "Conowingo Gull" was very easy to detect. It had a number of obvious differences from all of the other Ring- billed Gulls in the area. Mark's photographs, and mine, are of The Bird originally identified as a Common Gull (Larus canus canus).
