Norm,

I agree with you that the only "one-sided, cynical, combative, and mean-
spirited atmosphere that has existed in the Maryland Osprey forum in recent
weeks" was initiated by the person who wrote the original message saying the
ID of birds should not be discussed on the internet or at a bird club meeting.
This statement was completely outrageous and uncalled for and I am quite
honestly surprised it did not draw more reaction from the subscribers of
MDOSPREY.

The next message that meets the qualifications of one-sided, cynical,
combative, and mean-spirited was written by another person but forwarded by
the same person who wrote the original outrageous message.

In the conclusion of the second message the author writes " If this atmosphere
represents the future for birding in Maryland, then please count me out." You
report that person immediately unsubscribed from MDOSPREY. Thank you for
sharing that important bit of information with us.

In my opinion, the current subscribers of MDOSPREY have shown a great level of
dignity, maturity, and ethics in their handling of the controversy over the ID
of this bird. You should be proud to have such a great group of birders
subscribed to your list.

You have shown, by your example, the high standards you want MDOSPREY to meet.
Sure, you have had a few who could not or would not meet those standards, but
that is a natural occurrence. They will, as has been shown, bring the
attention to themselves and weed themselves out.

Thanks again, Norm.
