Hi Folks!

The only reliable spot this winter for Short-eared Owl has been Elliot Island
Road in Dorchester. There are few landmarks ...but.....

As you head south from Vienna, you will eventually reach the expanse of
marshes in the Savannah Lake Area and the last inhabited structures until you
get to Elliot. As you head south, there will be a building on the left side of
the road, it is well boarded and has all sorts of electronic alarm warnings
posted. Within the next 2 miles (I am uncertain of the actual distance), there
will be another structure of the left....this one without the feel that
someone cares if you break in or not. This is also a parking area for the WMA
with dikes to the east.

The Short-ears have been found most often north of this structure and south of
the first one. Watch both sides of the road.

Sam Dyke has reported Short-ears from Deal I. WMA in Somerset, but noted that
they were not reliable this Winter.

In general, there have been very few Short-ears in Maryland or Virginia this
Winter Season.....below "average".

Good Birding!
