Subject: Migration Count Opportunity

I believe this topic has been discussed before on this site, but just
as a reminder, the North American Migration Count is taking place on
May 9th. Rob Hilton and I are co-coordinators for Montgomery County,
and are in the process of contacting counters to see who will be
available to count. We try to touch base with those who have counted
in the past to get a handle on who will be in the field this year. We
want to make sure that we have all the key places covered, while
trying to avoid duplication. Along that line, if you are planning to
count in Montgomery County this year, please let me know. Of course
you don't have to let us know beforehand, but it does make things a
little easier. Our mission is to enjoy the day birding while also
counting for this worthy cause. All count data is welcomed.

Now for the main reason for this message. We recently got a call from
Fawn Foerster, a naturalist at Black Hills Regional Park. She is
looking for an experienced birder to join a group of people to go
kayaking down a river in either Frederick or Washington County (they
aren't sure which river yet). My understanding is that they are
looking for someone to count the birds on this trip at no cost (ie,
you get to go for free). The trip will be all day, leaving Black
Hills at 8 am, and returning at 7 pm, though it will only be about 3.5
hours of kayaking. If you are interested in taking advantage of this
opportunity, please call Fawn at 301-916-0220. I believe there is
only room for one, and I imagine that it is first-come/first-served.

Let me know if you have any questions (though I'll be out of town from
May 4th to the 8th).
