Four WILSON'S STORM-PETRELs were spotted from a tour boat in MD waters of the Chesapeake Bay, between Pt Lookout, St Mary's Co, and Smith Is, Somerset Co, on Jun 21; this species is seen fairly regularly from the tour boats, late June-August, so, while aboard, keep an eye on the chum lines of the small fleets of fishing boats working the waters. Nine WILSON'S PHALAROPEs were spotted at the north end of Raymond Pool, Bombay Hook NWR, DE, on Jun 20. DICKCISSELs are still being reported from traditional local breeding locations. A male DICKCISSEL was seen along Rt 656 (Hibler Rd), about 0.15 mi east of Rt 661, Lucketts, Loudoun Co, VA [DeLorme Pg 80, C1,2], on Jun 20. Farther afield, a DICKCISSEL was reported from the southern part of Highland Co, VA, on Jun 17. Also spotted in Highland Co this week were three PINE SISKINs, found along US Rt 250 in Monterey, on Jun 18. The RINGED TURTLE-DOVE that has been frequenting the White Oak area of Silver Spring, Montgomery Co, MD, was reported again this past week, most recently on Jun 22. A LEAST TERN was still frequenting the wildlife viewing area at Patuxent Research Refuge North Tract, Anne Arundel Co, MD, on Jun 19. Many of the remaining reports this week were of species known to breed locally. A LEAST BITTERN and a COMMON MOORHEN were again observed at Hughes Hollow, Montgomery Co, MD, on Jun 21; the bittern was in the first impoundment on the right, the moorhen in the first one on the left. A YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was spotted at Sycamore Landing, Montgomery Co, MD, also on Jun 21. CLIFF SWALLOWs, which have been engaged in nesting activities at the Riley's Lock aquaduct bridge, C&O Canal, Montgomery Co, MD, are still being seen, with at least four birds reported on Jun 22. Also reported this week were several species of lingering winter waterfowl. Two female COMMON MERGANSERs were spotted in the Northeast Branch of the Anacostia River, just north of Brentwood and Colmar Manor, Prince Georges Co, MD [DeLorme Pg 47, C-4,5], on Jun 21. A GREATER SCAUP has been seen frequently at Lake Artemisia, Greenbelt, also in Prince Georges Co, with the most recent report for Jun 23. And 19 RUDDY DUCKs were found in marshes across the road from Shearness Pool, Bombay Hook NWR, DE, on Jun 20.
