Bombay Hook was host to a white ibis (juvenile) today (and apparently has been for several days). The ibis is associating with a group of glossy ibis at the south end of Shearness Pool. A host of birders were standing by the side of the road and admiring the creature when I left. Also found at Bombay were lots of avocets, black-necked stilts (including a family with at least three offspring), four or five Wilson's phaloropes, some of which still were nicely colored, and a stilt sandpiper or two. The usual peeps and ducks were present, including a largish family of wood ducks. Port Mahon and Little Creek were disappointing. Almost nothing was there but laughing gulls. It was a great day for shore birding--low humidity, reasonable temperatures, and a breeze to keep the green-headed flies at bay. My instincts when I woke up at 5:30 and decided not to waste the day on housekeeping chores proved to be sound. :-) Emily Joyce Crownsville, MD ejoyce@toad.net
