Hi all: My husband Barry was over at the Delaware bayshore Saturday, with some friends. They visited Bombay Hook, Little Creek (including the Pickering Beach side) and Ted Harvey. In Barry's words, most of the areas are "in poor condition" -- too flooded for shorebirds (a familiar lament) or too dry. Ted Harvey is now flooded, and devoid of the thousands of autumn shorebirds which once graced the large impoundment. At Bombay, best conditions were at Shearness. However, Little Creek is in excellent condition, especially the Pickering Beach end. In addition to the birds noted by Bob R., they added seven Black Terns at Little Creek. No White-winged Terns but this might be the place to explore for this species, not unexpected at this time of year. If the current drought continues, however, Little Creek might become too dry and the action move to another site. Stay tuned! Cheers, Gail Mackiernan gail@umdd.umd.edu
