Howdy all! A quick update. Added 8 birds for the year. Total now at 666. 7/24 Flew into Boston Friday morning and drove up to Newmarket, NH. Spent about 4 hrs until the LITTLE EGRET (659) was located, thanks to Paul Lehman and Dennis Abbott. Drove to Machias, ME for the evening. 7/25 Went out to Machias Seal Island on Saturday from Jonesport. This is always a delight. Easily saw ATLANTIC PUFFIN (660) and RAZORBILL (661) up close and personal. A couple surprises on this trip were GREATER SHEARWATER (662) and MANX SHEARWATER (663), many thanks to Michael O'Brien. Drove back to Boston for the evening. 7/26 Went out on a whale-watching trip out of Newburyport, MA to Stellwagon Banks. Added WILSON'S (664) and LEACH'S STORM-PETRELs (665). Thank you Carol Ralph. There were also many Humpback Whales which made the trip even more enjoyable. Was unable to refind the Little Egret in NH that afternoon for Carol (her 3rd trip). 7/27 Up early (4:30am). Destination: Mt Washington, NH. Target: Bicknell's Thrush. Due to fog and other delays (ha--I got lost), I did not arrive at the base of Mt Washington until 8:30am. Even so, I found 3 BICKNELL'S THRUSHes (666) at the first pullout beyond the 4,000 ft level at about 11:00am. One was calling a little lower about 11:30am. Returned to Boston and flew back to Baltimore. Got home about midnight. Covered 1300 miles in my rent-a-box over the weekend. Weather was pleasant and cool. Wish I'd have had more time to bird <grin>. Greg Miller Lusby, Maryland http://www.erols.com/gregorym (I'll update this later tonight)
