We got word of this (without knowledge of a photo to prove it) last night, but the parks are closed on Tuesday. A couple of folks with an in with the ranger were going to try today, but I haven't heard of any luck. However, anyone near the water in Anne Arundel or Baltimore County should keep an eye open for them. To the best of my knowledge, they were last seen (*before* they were reported to anyone in the bird club!) around 10 a.m. Monday. The Anne Arundel rare bird chain has been alerted with an urgent request to report any success so we can share it. By the way, if you spot anything in AA Co., if you let Helen Ford (410-267-8417) or me (410-923-6053) know, we will activate our hot line. (Believe it or not, some folks don't have I-net access! :) ) We have contacts in Montgomery, Baltimore, and Howard counties and include them in the alert. I promise to make anything that comes our way out via this medium, too. For those of you who might want to venture out in search of the wood storks without recent verification, take the easiest route from your area to get to Maryland Rt. 100 east. Follow it to where it deadends at Mountain Road and go east until you get to the park. There is a $4 charge per car to enter the park, so if several of you go, you might want to carpool from a nearby shopping center and split the cost. The birds were last seen in Locust Cove. Park employees can point you in the right direction.
