On Saturday afternoon Sept. 12 I was watching birds at the Harney Road pond east of Emmitsburg, Frederick Co., Maryland. During the hour or so we were there we noted Am. Golden Plover--6 or 8 Killdeer--25+ Semipalmated Plover--1 Baird's Sandpiper--1 Least Sandpiper--6 or so Lesser Yellowlegs--1 American Pipit--2 Savannah Sparrow--5 Great Egret, Red-tailed Hawk, and not much else. We also saw Cloudless Sulphurs twice: once flying north, which I didn't see, and once heading south (a male). Has anyone been noting the sex ratio of these Sulphurs? Well over half of the ones I reported from Point Lookout last weekend were male; a recent report from Washington & Old Dominion Regional Bike Trail in Vienna, VA. (Fairfax Co.) on the LEPS-List said that all of the ones seen up close were males. Best, Rob Hilton robert@csa.com Bethesda
