FAS walk: Dulles wetlands and Snicker's Gap

Folks,

The FAS walk today went fairly well and brought the following highlights:
At Dulles wetlands:
Bald Eagle, 2 Red-Shoulders, 2 Kestrels, 3 Hummers, 4 Tree Swallows, 1 Marsh
Wren, 1 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, 6 Common Yellowthroats, 9 Blue Grosbeaks, and a
few Indigo Buntings to compare to the Grosbeaks.

At Snicker's Gap the following:
2100+ hawks (see Todd Day's breakdown on the numbers, yesterday 18 Sept
Snicker's had 19400+ hawks, the two day totals break all previous year total
records) including Osprey, No. Harrier, Sharp-shinned, Broad-wings, Red-tails,
and Peregrine.  Passerines include E. Peewee, dozens of Tree Swallows, lots of
Ravens, dozens of Cedar Waxwings, and a miniature warbler fallout, (only 1/3
of the birds were IDed):  8 Red-eyed Vireos, 2 No. Parulas, 4 Chestnut-sideds,
1 Black-thr Blue, 2 Black-thr Greens, 1 Bay-breasted, 2 Black&Whites, 6
Redstarts, and 2 Common Yellowthroats.

Snicker's Gap is located about 15 miles west of Leesburg on Rt 7 and the
counting station is in the parking lot at the gap on the south side.  We start
counting Sunday at 0900.  All are welcome and we can provide help to improve
your raptor identification skills.
