Riverbend Park, Fairfax County. Located off of Rte 7, a few minutes west of
Great Falls.

Wednesday, 30 Sep 98. 07:15 - 09:45. Cloudy, southerly breeze, temps
starting in the low 60's, ending high 70's. Light sprinkle, and it was
raining hard nearby. In attendance were, Kurt Gaskill, Mike Day, and myself.

All told, 44 species for the day. It started out much less promising than it
finished.
Very gloomy and dark. Eventually things brightened up. Today marked a few
firsts of the season for me, including RC Kinglet (2), Yellow-rumps(2), and
White-throated Sparrows(2-3). As well as some lingering migrants, including
Swainson's thrush (1), RB Grosbeak(1 first fall male), Scarlet Tanager(1
male), BTB (1 female), red-eyed vireos (2), indigo buntings (12).

Other notables not included above:
3 Cormorants
1 immature Sharpie, hunting blue jays and goldfinches, but coming up empty
20 Chimney swifts
4 woodpecker species
2 phoebes
lots of blue jays
chicks, tits and WB nuts
1 house wren
15 or more bluebirds
10 catbirds
2 thrashers
2 palm warblers
12 common yellowthroats
4 chipping sparrows
1 song sparrow
1 swamp sparrow
1000 or more grackles, many without much of a tail
