hi all:
A first for me this am, Black-throated Green W. foraging in wild cherry
along the side of our property, a brightly marked mature male. A
Carolina Wren seems to have taken up residence, also a first. It looks
like a first yr. bird( almost no tail ), and has been around for the
last 3 wks. While watering my impatiens, I heard a whirring sound, and
to my delight a female RT .hummer began feeding less than 3 ft. away. (
I turned off the water). As I stood glued to the spot, it made the
rounds of the impatiens and cardinal flowers, then was on its` way. I
will add that it ignored the feeders. Goldfinches present in flocks of
a dozen or so,foraging on pussy willow shrub and especially loving river
birch trees. Some begging behaviour is still going on. Has anyone else
noticed this, I`d be interested to know. Our 3/4 acre lot was barren
when we moved in 10 yrs ago, and it has been wonderful to note new
species as the plantings increase. We met a wildlife landscaper this
summer, and are embarking on a huge project to naturalize the unplanted
areas with different habitats. If anyone is interested in this type of
a project, I`d be glad to send more info privately.

We ahve neighbours only on one side, and a privacy fence/tall hedges
blcking the view, so I don`t have to contend with folks thinking I`m a
weirdo, as in the entertaining posts of late.
