You know, I usually keep my feeders full all year-round, but this year I had a lot of squirrel damage to feeders so I stopped feeding until the feeder poles could be moved to a better spot. (All my feeders are on poles with squirrel guards, which generally works, but some nearby shrubs got so big that the squirrels started using them to jump up). I still haven't re-started feeding yet. I think this has affected the number of insect eaters as well as seed eaters in my yard- I guess because birds travel in mixed flocks, and maybe because all the activity at the feeders attracts the bug eaters as well as seed eaters. I have lower numbers of species and of individuals within species at my yard than ever before in the fall. Gotta get those poles moved!
