My mini-quiz about the breeding range of Maryland warblers was a bit of a fraud. According to the Yellow Book, there are two species that breed in 22 of the 23 Maryland counties. Yellow-throated Warbler does not breed in Garret (yet) as many of you pointed out. The other species was Common Yellowthroat, which is not listed as breeding in Worcester County. Obviously it does. The problem was a typo in the production of the book, one of very few considering the massive amount of information it contains. I was just using the quiz as a way of pointing out the error, which was probably not the best way to do so. As penance, I offer a legitimate quiz, one much easier. No typos or mistakes here. Of all the members of the heron family, only one has been recorded breeding in all 23 counties. That is not the quiz, being much too easy. It is Green Heron. In second place, however, found in 21 counties, is ___________. Rick "Everywhere I go I'm asked if the university stifles writers. My opinion is that they don't stifle enough of them.
