We went to Rock Creek in the early am, found it slow -- the warbler migration is coming to an end -- so decided to hit Layhill Park in Montgomery County. It was obvious that the sparrows had arrived! White-throated (300+), Song (100+), Chipping (~50), Swamp (~40), White-crowned (6), Field (~20), Junco (12). No Lincoln's, a bit surprising since this is one of the best sites. No sign of yesterday's Savannah Sparrow either. Many other migrants: Ruby-crowned Kinglets (40+), Palm Warbler (5), Phoebe (2), Blue Jays, Robins, Catbirds, a few House Wrens, Common Yellowthroats, Indigo Buntings, over 50 Bluebirds (compared to about a dozen yesterday). The place was jumping! Gail Mackiernan and Barry Cooper gail@umdd.umd.edu
