Chris Montouri, of Second Chance wildlife rehabilitators in Gaithersburg, told me that she gets injured woodcock regularly in the spring and fall, and they are always from downtown DC. She wondered if the lights confuse them there. Also, about 4 years ago one of the gardeners told me that she had flushed one in the Mary Ripley garden (on the opposite side of the A&I Building from the Enid Haupt garden).
