Eagle sells a carrier that is light and provides quick access to the
scope.  It consists of two bands that wrap around the scope, secured
by velcro and connected to a padded shoulder strap, which can be
adjusted for length.  Not too impressive as a gift but very
practical.  I suppose you have told them about using pipe insulation
to pad the legs?
