Ducks and such on Hunting Creek and elsewhere

Folks,

During low tide today, 1220-1330 17 Nov 98 the following birds were seen in
the area of Hunting Creek.  In addition to the Double-crested Cormorants, the
4 gulls (101 Laughing Gulls), Great Blue Herons (7), Great Egrets (4) the
following were noted....

Tundra Swan - 1
Mute Swan - 1
C. Goose - 317
Mallard - 79
Black Duck - 51
No. Pintail - 91
No. Shoveler - 1
Gadwall - 1
Bald Eagle - 11 (2 adult)
Am. Coot - 144
Forster's Tern - 7


Pied-billed Grebe - 25
Great Blue Heron - 4
C. Goose - 213
Mallard - 12
No. Pintail - 40
No. Shoveler - 32
Am. Widgeon - 5
Gadwall - 16
Lesser Scaup - 1
Bufflehead - 28
Ruddy Duck - 7
Bald Eagle - 2 (imm)
Am. Coot - 63
Forster's Tern - 8

Counting the Scaup raft off of Riverside Park in VA down the GW parkway:
Lesser Scaup - 920 with a few Ruddys and Coots mixed in

Accotink Bay, Ft Belvoir (not an extensive count), 1430-1500

Pied-billed Grebe (4+), Dbl-cr Cormorant, Great Blue Heron (24), C. Goose
(200+), Green-winged Teal (30+), Mallard (100+), Black Duck (200+), No.
Pintail (30+), Bufflehead (24), Ruddy Duck (314+), Bald Eagle (1, imm), Red-
tailed Hawk (1, ad), and Am. Coot (300+)
