Greetings All,
This is a little late, but may still be of interest. The Anne Arundel Bird
club made a field trip to Blackwater NWR on Sat Nov 28 in the afternoon.
(To watch sunset and geese coming in at dusk.) Saw the expected geese and
eagles, not many ducks--just 2 species, northern pintails and American
black ducks.

What we did see of particular interest was an American Bittern near the
Marsh Trail in the edge of very shallow water. The bird appeared to be
feeding although anything it was eating had to be very small as we had an
extended up close look -- with a scope. The bird's head completely filled
the view in the scope! Fifteen or twenty people stood around and watched
and the bittern just went on feeding. A fabulous viewing opportunity.
