There was a very sad note on the PABirds listserv this afternoon.
Ed Fingerhood, from southeast Pennsylvania, passed away recently. Ed was at
heart a PA birder but he was here in Maryland for several years during the
active field work on the Maryland/DC Atlas and provided a lot of coverage.
In addition, he was largely responsible for getting the Atlas newsletter
out and did a wonderful job. If it had not been for his efforts, in the
face of my procrastination, it never would have appeared. He was an
immensely kind and generous person who volunteered for numerous projects. I
know many Maryland birders remember Ed and are saddened by this news.

"Everywhere I go I'm asked if the university stifles writers. My opinion is
that they don't stifle enough of them. There's many a bestseller that could
have been prevented by a good teacher." Flannery O'Connor
