Patuxent River Water Bird Census

Saturday, February 27, 1999

7:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

Please join us for a new birding event: a simultaneous count of water
birds up and down the Patuxent, from the reservoirs in Howard County to
the river mouth at Solomons. Our census is timed to coincide with the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Services aerial census of water birds on the Patuxent.

Our goal: To get a snapshot of water bird diversity, distribution and
abundance along the river in winter. The count will involve many
conservation organizations and natural areas in a joint effort to better
understand water bird abundance on the Patuxent.

What we need: Experienced birders, suggestions for census points on the
river and data recorders.

Your rewards: Plenty of birds, new knowledge and a potluck tally supper
on March 13 at Jug Bay Sanctuary.
