Folks, When I viewed Piscataway Bay today, 1/1/99 at about 1530 from the fishermens landing area looking north and east, it was covered with ice. Most of the ducks were gone and an incredible chill wind was blowing off the Potomac. I noted a few Buffleheads and Ruddys and overhead flights of 13 Tundra Swans. In the distance a Common Merg was spotted, a nearby Hooded Merg pair swam by and I thought some more Mergs may be closer to the marina on the north side. For CBC purposes, it may be advantageous to stop near the marina and count from there to better see these distance ducks near that shoreline - there may be a small wind break for both you and the ducks. From the Colonial Farm region there were additional Common Mergs on the Potomac, 3 Pied-billed Grebes, a couple of Pintails and 2 Boneys on the river. Kurt Gaskill, kurtcapt87@aol.com
