Hello,
=20
Just got in from the Paxtuxent River CBC (Calvert and St. Mary's =
Counties). A light phase Rough-legged Hawk was observed in an =
agricultural area off of Turner Road in Calvert County: from Solomons =
take Rte 4 north for about 4 miles to Mill Bridge Rd on left side of =
divided hwy, make a right turn and follow for about 2-3 miles to Turner =
Rd. make a left turn. Follow Turner Rd. for about 1 mile until it drops =
down to an agricultural area as you approach the river (if you have =
access to the ADC Street Map Atlas for Calvert Co. it is on map #18 =
E-4). It was first observed at approximately 9:40 AM perched low near =
the back edge of a large open field on the north side of Turner RD. The =
bird was seen again later in the day by a different observer as the RLH =
was being harrassed in flight by a Red-tailed Hawk.
=20
Also observed during the count were a Lesser Black-backed Gull in =
Solomons; 2 Peregrine Falcons near Cove Point; American Pipits off of =
Indian Bridge Rd. in St. Mary's County; and 5 American Tree Sparrows =
also near Cove Point. Snow Buntings were seen at the PAX River NAS. =
Also noteworthy were hundreds of Bonaparte's Gulls moving up the =
Bay-there were a steady stream of these gulls moving throughout the =
afternoon.
